Overview
Paid courses, internal training and member content need clear viewing rights, expiry and withdrawal procedures. Include manifests, segments, keys and captions in the protected boundary, not only the player page.
Available credentials, encryption, watermarking and authorization services must be confirmed for the integration. No individual mechanism can guarantee that all copying or external recording is prevented.
Choose protection according to content risk
Different mechanisms solve different problems. Define the risks first, then combine controls instead of enabling every restriction without a purpose.
| Mechanism | Purpose | Consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Source restrictions | Reduce direct embedding by other sites | Not a substitute for identity checks |
| Short-lived credentials | Limit the time and scope of a shared link | Coordinate clocks, renewal and caches |
| Media encryption | Reduce direct reading of media files | Key delivery still needs authorization |
| Traceable watermarking | Help investigate the source of a leak | Review privacy, quality and processing cost |
| DRM | Apply playback controls through device licensing | Test compatibility and licensing separately |
Protect content without excluding legitimate viewers
Changing devices, mobile IP changes and resuming a background page are normal. Test these paths before releasing restrictions, and make failures understandable.
Authorization failures
Distinguish expiry, missing rights and network errors so users know whether to sign in again or retry later.
Cache isolation
Verify that shared caching neither bypasses authorization nor returns personalized content to another viewer.
Review and feedback
Record only necessary request and authorization results, with a false-positive feedback and rollback process.
