Plan a continuous viewing path for video

Map video delivery and recovery across origins, manifests, segments, authorization and device compatibility.

Overview

VOD, live and replay may share infrastructure but have different freshness needs. Define their paths separately and observe them consistently.

This is an architectural planning example, not a customer case study, a delivered project or a promise of performance gains.

01

Define caching by playback mode

Manage VOD by version, update live manifests continuously, and align replay manifests with retained segments. One lifetime does not suit every file.

02

Clarify authorization and licensing

Confirm identity checks, playback tokens and rights licensing separately. For DRM, validate actual browser, device, key and license-service combinations rather than relying on a feature label.

03

Define predictable failure behavior

Plan source switching, timeouts and visible errors. Fallback origins need compatible content versions; blind retries cannot fix mismatched manifests and segments.

04

Measure the viewing journey

Review startup, buffering, errors and quality changes, separating encoding issues from regional delivery. Prepare test windows, contacts and recovery steps for important events.
