Overview
Optimization is not about making every image as small as possible. It is about delivering a suitable file for the actual display and content. The WAFGO approach evaluates assets, page behavior and caching together.
This guide describes image-processing and CDN integration. Automatic processing, supported formats and billing must be confirmed for the actual solution; no image transformation API is provided here.
Fix mismatched dimensions first
A mobile thumbnail usually does not need the pixels required for a large image view. Prepare a limited, reusable set of sizes for real layouts instead of creating a new variant for every request.
Responsive sizes
Select resources according to viewport, pixel density and displayed width while preserving reasonable high-density detail.
Content-aware crops
Check focal points and edges for people, products and text so cropping does not remove essential information.
Stable layout
Reserve dimensions and aspect ratios so loaded images do not push surrounding content.
Choose format and quality by asset type
Photos, transparent graphics, icons and text-heavy screenshots have different needs. Compare representative samples for size and appearance, then check actual device compatibility.
| Asset | Review |
|---|---|
| Photography | Detail, color, gradients and compression artifacts |
| Transparent graphics | Edge transparency, backgrounds and file size |
| Text screenshots | Small-text readability and sharp boundaries |
| Brand icons | Suitable vector use, proportions and licensing |
Make image processing a reviewable publishing workflow
Retain the original, identify its display purpose and generate a bounded set of published variants. Review dimensions, crops, formats and effects together. Processing tools can change while versions and acceptance records remain clear.
Resize and crop
Generate size tiers around layout ratios and focal points without stretching the source. Check that people, products and text remain intact.
Format and quality
Choose outputs according to transparency, color and device compatibility, then compare appearance and file size on representative images.
Sharpening and watermarks
Inspect edges and noise when sharpening. For watermarks, confirm content rights, placement and readability; a watermark does not replace authorization.
Controlled publication
Publish approved specifications and versions, restrict protected originals, and avoid arbitrary public processing that creates unbounded variants and resource consumption.
Make processed results reusable
Versions, sizes and formats define cache objects. Keep variant counts controlled to avoid fragmented caching and unnecessary processing from unconstrained inputs.
- Retain originals and give processed outputs traceable version identifiers.
- Verify that each format and size receives the correct cached content.
- Prioritize necessary first-view images appropriately and defer images outside the visible area.
- Check old-version cleanup and rollback when replacing assets.
